Do LED Grow Lights Get Hot? 2020 Updated

LED grow lights are increasingly favored by home and commercial cannabis growers alike. The best LED grow lights for cannabis boast many benefits that give them the edge over traditional High Intensity Discharge (HID grow light kits) lights, from being more economical to being brighter and more convenient. But one of the most often cited benefits is that LED grow lights run cool.
Due to the nature of the materials that make up the diode there is also high reflectivity inside of it which contributes further to heat emission. Highly efficient LEDs such as the ones used in our manufacturing process can convert close to 80% of the electricity that goes in, which means that 80% of it is converted into light. This light is then emitted by the diode, but small portions of if it gets transformed into heat due to the processes explained above. This leftover heat is then re-assimilated by the diode. This is why LEDs exhume heat.
Although they are incredibly efficient, LED lights still produce some heat that needs to be properly managed. This is a result of the energy being transformed and heating up the lamp. Each watt of electricity produces some amount of heat regardless of LEDs output efficiency. For example, an LED bulb that consumes 8 watts would generate a heat of 27.28 Btu.
While the heat from one or two LED grow lights is quite manageable, air circulation and ventilation are essential tools for you as a grower. Irrespective of heat, here are some things that will happen to your plants if you don’t ventilate and circulate your air: dust will settle on your plants and reduce their photosynthetic efficiency, humidity will rise reducing transpiration and increase mold pathogens, and carbon dioxide levels will drop lowering your photosynthesis rate. Not only should you ventilate and circulate your air, but filtration is also recommended to reduce smells, dust, and the exchange of pathogens.
You can use quantum board led grow light to reduce the heat.
HLG550 V2 Commercial Indoor Horticulture LED grow light is designed to replace a single-ended 1000watt HID. Each HLG-550 V2 uses 4 of our custom designed full-spectrum high efficiency white light quantum boards with LM301B top-bin Samsung LED diodes.
