How long does it take to grow a marijuana plant?
Generally speaking, it takes anywhere from 14-32 weeks, or about 4-8 months, to grow a weed plant.

The life cycle of cannabis can be broken down into four primary stages from seed to harvest:

Germination (5-10 days)
Seedling (2-3 weeks)
Vegetative (3-16 weeks)
Flowering (8-11 weeks)

Germination
Once you have figured out the sex of the marijuana seed, you can continue with the germination process. You can either soak the seed in a cup of water or fold it in a damp paper towel.

If you are using the former method, you will notice the seed floating on top of the water. This is normal, and once the seed absorbs enough water, it will eventually sink to the bottom of the glass.

On the other hand, if you are folding your seed in a damp paper towel, keep it at rest for at least 24 hours in a dark place. You will notice the sprouts coming out of the seed after some time.

Don’t take the seed out until you see the seed sprout its taproot. Once the seeds have started growing their taproot, they enter the second stage.

Vegetative Stage: 3-8 Weeks
By the time the vegetative stage comes round, you should have transferred the plants to larger pots. At this point, they will be growing rapidly as they take on more nutrients and carbon dioxide. This allows them to develop leaves and take shape very quickly.

Vertical growth will take place now, with plants growing taller. We have heard of people’s plants gaining 2 inches in height in just 24 hours!

You will now be able to tell what kind of plants you’re growing as they show their defining characteristics. Sativas will become taller and narrower, whereas indicas will appear short and bushy with dense foliage.

FLOWERING STAGE
As the plant develops, the root system grows and the stem becomes thicker and supports more branches which in turn encourages more leaves. With regular watering, an abundant supply of organic nutrients, and plenty of soil space, it will take one plant roughly 6-8 weeks to start flowering.

However, do not be alarmed if the plant takes more or less time to start flowering, as the factors mentioned above influence it. With time, these buds begin producing milky-white pistils.

Bud Fattening
