The energy amount depends on the stage of your cannabis plant. Usually, grow lights need to stay switched on for 9 to 18 hours so that the plant can photosynthesize and grow healthily.
Having LED grow lights will markedly reduce your electricity bill, so they are light on the pocket in the long run.
Long Life
A run of the mill LED grow light will last for at least 50,000 hours. That is a little over 5 years. Higher end LED units can last for up to 20 years. This drastically reduces the number of bulbs that need to be bought and replaced. Besides lasting longer, LED units have a very compact design. They are thinner and lighter compared to conventional units. Also, depending on how much space you have to work with, you could possibly set up a vertical garden with stacks of at least 2 or more!
Less Heat
By definition, one Watt of electricity produces 3.41 Btu of heat when consumed by any light-emitting source. LED, high-pressure sodium, metal-halide, florescent, induction and plasma lights all abide by this principle.
The basic reason LED lights produce less heat is less Watts are being consumed. Also, LEDs do not instantly convert more than half of the watts consumed into infrared heat, as their HPS/MH counterparts do.

Price
Even though they save lots on electricity, good quality LED grow lights are expensive enough that it could up to a year or longer to see returns on your investment. (However, unlike HID lighting, most LED grow lights can last upwards of 10 years!)
Another disadvantage of the LEDS is the purple color they emit, under which some damage stays hidden. For example, pest prevention may be harder because the light hides pest damage.
